And in this second video, you can see me perform a different methodology for this routine which is also, due to the methods used 100% safe unlike many versions which are available on the market, many of which people have been injured with whilst performing.

I loved the concept in “The Red Carpet” routine created by Ari Soroka and released by Jason Palter as it really got my creative juices flowing and after much thinking I came up with solutions to all the things about the routine that to me I did not feel comfortable about…
I wanted a more logical and innocent way of numbers being selected that had a logical and believable in keeping premise with the routine, and at the same time would make all of the props used seem totally logical and innocent.
I wanted to be able to do more with the props than just do the its apparently gone wrong and then “head character reveal” so that it became more of a feature routine.
I wanted to combine music to add an extra element of impact to the routine, and I wanted with the same props to be able to reveal a different character at the end for repeat shows and such like (which you can now do with my version and variations and in a manner whereby effective use of music to point the routine is also still possible)
And overall I wanted to tie the routine into a story and narrative that would have far greater emotional impact on my audiences and thus lead to even more applause.
In truth other than revealing a freely chosen character by having a mask on my head at the end of the routine, what I developed has ended up bearing next to no relation to the original “Red Carpet” whatsoever, but it was that routine which originally set me thinking to my thanks must go to Jason Palter for releasing that and of course Ari Soroka for devising it.

Overall I am very proud of the end result which I truly feel is far more deceptive than the “Red Carpet” which originally inspired me and I hope you feel the same way to.

Both as an Impromtu Mentalism Performance piece and also as a planned Stage Performance I personally love the Abnormal lift and have been performing such in my shows for over 23 years now!
In the early 90’s I started to give them the power to lift, then took it away again before giving it them back one more time, and indeed I performed the Abnormal Lift in this manner on Granada Sky TV’s show “Psychic Livetime” also in the early 90’s pre-dating others who claim this to have been their idea.
And for the record taking their power away and then giving it back was not my idea either, as I’d seen it performed many years earlier by old time Stage Hypnotist Delavar and few years later had been fortunate enough to meet Delavar and gain his blessing to perform the routine in that manner.
However over the years I have developed an even more Psychologically and Emotionally Powerful presentation for The Abnormal Lift, something that will be discussed in detail in my forthcoming “Mentalists Cook Book” DVD package that is due for release in Mid August 2012.

Great performers who have already offered their variations on the “Chair Test” routine to the market, I’d like to share with you my Chair Test Mentalism Mind Magic Routine without any Chairs being used that I have been performing on and off for a little over Six Months now with great reactions.
I always where possible like to include music into my routines as much as possible and an element of situational comedy style humour whilst still retaining (or preferably amplifying) the reaction to the effect.
For the record there is no thumb writing used in the clip you are about to see of my routine, a routine that will be explained in depth in my forthcoming “Mentalists Cook Book” DVD Package which is due for release in Mid August 2012.

It seems that there’s a new version of ACAAN being released every five minutes and I’ve personally spent a fortune on them over the years including most recently purchasing The Berglas Effects which by the way is a great read..
However having looked at them all I have to be honest and say that I still only use the two versions that I have now been performing for many years.
For Stage Performances my preferred routine as it has a Triple Whammy Ending that I have found makes it more memorable for audiences is the one you can see me perform in this clip
And my favourite method for Close-Up Performances (although on the odd occasion I have used it on stage also) is the one that you can see me perform in this clip
The methods used in the first video are sure fire and guaranteed to work every time which is why its my preferred stage method, whereas the method used in the second video only works in this manner around 85% of the time, the other 15% of the time one or two methods not entirely dissimilar to the kind of thing Mr. Berglas teaches in his book have to be used to ensure a positive outcome.

I personally think that a touch of comedy is a good thing in Mentalism especially at the start of the show for gaining rapport with the audience.
As an example of this here’s a routine I use at the start of my show which is inspired by an original idea I saw Max Maven teach in his lecture in the early 90’s at Blackpool Magic Convention, with a few slight alterations by myself.
Its an easily adaptable idea, which I have in the past also used to tie in with and promote product names of items sold/manufactured by the company that has employed me.
Anyhow take a look at the video, its not belly aching hilarious, its just a spot of unexpected light hearted humour at the start of the show which I have found helps knock the audiences guard down and gets them onside and more attentative for what’s to come.

Oh and for the record the dropping of the prediction which seems to be an accident was all pre-planned and is all part of the humour and also psychology I use to knock the audience off guard for the truly amazing stuff that’s then to follow.
This kind of use of Psychology to manipulate your audiences is something I will be discussing in depth in my forthcoming “Mentalists Cook Book” DVD package which is due for release in mid August 2012.
I love the “Make The Cards Match Routine” and have been using it in my close up performances for what is fast approaching 30 years now,
However in recent years I’ve started to include it in my Stage performances with great effect and come up with a way of presenting it so its all about the audience members being successful, strokes their egos and at the end draws maximum applause from them.
In my live show there is quite a time gap between revealing that the last two cards match and then finally the audience discovering that all the other four pairs of cards also match.
During this time several other routines are performed, so that when it comes to the very end of the show and I reveal that all the four sets of cards that were discarded earlier also all match (and I praise the audience for achieving such) this comes as a much unexpected surprise to the audience and draws maximum applause from them (often standing ovations) as you’ll see in this clip –
I’ll be discussing the Psychology of structuring routines in order to gain maximum applause and also make the audience feel good, thus in turn making them like you and thus making you more memorable in my forthcoming “Mentalists Cook Book” DVD set which is due for release in mid August 2012.

I love Hoys Tossed Out Deck Card Mentalism Routine and indeed have featured it in my stage shows for over 20 years.
However since the late 1990’s I’ve been performing it as a long distance person on the end of the phone becomes the mind reader type of effect.
With some clever psychology, effective use of Dual Reality and clever linguistics, its become one of the effects from my shows that people talk about most.
For the record I’ve been performing it in this manner since the late 1990’s (and have evidence of such on file) and have also performed this for TV (in Amsterdam in 2002) I mention that as I’m aware of others since those dates having claimed to have created such which I am sure must on their parts have been nothing more than a case of independent creation.
