A.P.H.P. = STATEMENT FROM JONATHAN ROYLE HYPNOTIST ON A.P.H.P.

Following various comments recently made by various people within a thread on a fellow Hypnotherapists Facebook wall I would like to make a few facts very clear..
*Above at top of this page is an image of a Membership Certificate dated 1990 signed by Dr. Brian Howard to me from “The Association of Professional Hypnotherapists and Parapsychologists” of which the initials are A.P.H.P.
I have another of these somewhere dated 1989 which is when I first purchased the A.P.H.P. Home Study Course from Dr. Brian Howard and passed the exam that came with it.
*These APHP Home Study Hypnotherapy Courses were advertised regularly in the British Publication “The Exchange and Mart” amongst others and thus it is possible to prove in court were it ever needed to be done that the use of APHP as initial for a Hypnotherapy Association traces back to the mid to late 80’s at least.
*In around the early to mid 90’s I gained permission and legal right from Dr. Brian Howard to sell his APHP Home Study Packages and to use the APHP name.
*I shortly after altered the use of APHP from meaning “The Association of Professional Hypnotherapists and Parapsychologists” as seen in the example below to “The Association of Professional Hypnotherapists & Psychotherapists”
*BEFORE 1999, a one Terrence Watts of the Essex Institute of Clinical Hypnosis purchased one of my MindCare Home Study Courses from “Prospect House Publishing” whom I had engaged to do my marketing at the time.
*As shown on his own website of https://www.aphp.co.uk/index.php from which I quote: “APHP was established as a non-profit association in 1999”, funny that as APHP as a Hypnotherapy Association was in existence first by Dr. Brain Howard and then by me well BEFORE 1999.
*Terrence even had the audacity well over a decade ago now to send us a Lawyers letter threatening Legal Action for infringing his Trademark…. WE LAUGHED as I am sure you will as well when you consider the very real facts above… Needless to say nothing further occurred as in truth it is me that has (if I so desired) the Legal Right to get his APHP Trademark revoked…
*He only registered APHP as a Trademark on 3rd October 2000 as shown here https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/1/UK00002247197 and it is due to be renewed on 3rd October 2020.
*He knows that he got the idea of APHP from me and does not have a legal leg to stand on hence on the homepage of his own APHP website https://www.aphp.co.uk/index.php it sates and I quote:
“Please note: There is another hypnotherapy organisation that uses the letters ‘APHP’, though we hold the registered trademark. If you are seeking to confirm the certification of a particular therapist but cannot find them on this register, please contact us on 01702 3***** and we will confirm their membership or otherwise.”
*Anyone who knows anything about Trademark Law will I am sure confirm to you that I have based on all of the above more than enough Legal Rights and Proof available to me to have Mr. Watts Trademark Revoked and signed over to me, but I have not bothered to do so as frankly life is too short…
*And I also find it HILARIOUS & IRONIC that a so called “Ethical” Association is using a name Taken Without Permission from someone else, namely myself and prior to me Dr. Brian Howard.

Having come across you before (under at least two of the different names you use) and been on the receiving end of your aggressive and abusive (and poorly spelled – I note that you haven’t even managed to spell Terence Watts name correctly here) messages after I had to register a complaint about your services a few years ago (you refused to give a refund to which I was entitled), I’m not surprised to see this rant above making sweeping and derogatory comments about Terence Watts. I write this response based on personal and professional experience, as a Lifetime Diplomate of APHP (the highest level of membership that is awarded to only a very few people who are considered to have shown a “huge committment to their profession over many years. These are the ‘creme de la creme”). My Diplomate colleagues include Wendi Friesen and Roy Hunter.
Apart from the lack of detail as to when and why exactly you changed the name of “your” Assocation (which has a different name from Terence Watts’ APHP), what you don’t mention is that as of 2011 when hypnotherapy and psychotherapy were reviewed, the government supported the establishment of the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) to set and maintain the national occupational and training standards for the profession. Although regulation is still voluntary, any hypnotherapy training provider that is ethical and responsible ensures that their courses meet these standards. CNCH is very clear that entry level training for Hypnotherapy must include a MINIMUM of 120 hours of face-to-face classroom training, as part of the minimum of 450 hours of personal study, research and training, including theory and supervised practice, as well as including the core curriculum prescribed, which is regularly reviewed by reputable and experienced training providers. Online training for additional study and for advanced courses post-qualification are considered to be acceptable, but a hypnotherapist cannot be registered with CNHC unless they have completed a training course that is accredited by an official Verifying Organisation. Unsurprisingly, your Association is not on that list. You cite a number of accrediting bodies, but not the one that reflects UK policy and trends towards developing consistent and quality assured professional practitioner standards in the field of healthcare, for both legally and voluntarily regulated professions.
As far as I can see, your contribution to the profession is limited to sales techniques, self-promotion, manipulation, and marketing yourself online – the bottom line seems to be all about profit rather than client-centred health and well-being. In your endorsement of online/home study training with a “get rich quick”, “buy a qualification” style marketing-copy you don’t come across as someone who has a deep knowledge of the psyche or core values that are compatible with client-centred therapy and concern for others, in contrast to the requirement that APHP members uphold its comittment to “compassion and humility”. From what I’ve read in your emails and seen of your presentation in videos, I certainly wouldn’t recommend you as a professional practitioner of hypnotherapy, let alone as a fully-fledged psychotherapist. Even your definitions of the elements that constitute NLP are imprecise.
I have worked in association with Terence Watts for many years, running EICH-licensed courses in the Middle East (and twice being awarded the “School of the Year” honour for the quality and quantity of the graduates we train) as well as practising and training in the UK, and have always found him to be a person of high integrity and professionalism. Despite having no formal academic higher education, he has proved himself to be a leader in the field, developing numerous courses and techniques, conducting highly recommended online courses for advanced study and CPD, publishing a number of successful books which contain highly original material and concepts and are endorsed by many of the best known hypnotherapists internationally.
Essex Institute is the only hypnotherapy training organisation in the UK to be allowed to use the title “Institute”. This term can only be legally used if permission has been gained from the UK Government. Because Essex Institute was able to demonstrate eminence in the field of training and actively engaged in research, it was able to obtain the approval of the UK Secretary of State to use the title of “Institute”. Terence has also set up the BWRT Institute to promote, develop and train the new modality that he has created and which is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is now taught as part of at least one university Masters degree in Psychology. He has also founded the British BrainWorking Research Society.
I invite anyone who wishes to find out for themselves whether your career, achievements, ethics and values are comparable with those of Terence Watts to check out the websites and materials produced by Terence, including Hypnosense, Essex Institute (EICH), BWRT, the Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (APHP), the National Register for Psychotherapists and Counsellors (NRPC), and the CNHC, as well as Terence’s books, papers and articles.

Obviously we are all entitled to our own opinions in life, sadly yours in a delusional one that is NOT based in reality and the real evidence out there (for those who bother to investigate it) illustrates the hilarious nonsense of your rantings above.
As I have absolutely nothing to hide and you are talking complete cobblers of the highest order and purposely trying to mislead people that there is some kind of “Legally” required Accreditation for Hypnotherapy Courses in England (WHICH THERE IS NOT ON ANY LEVEL) I will NOT be deleting your nonsense comments above.
REMEMBER Terrence as stated on this page (and easily proven) STUDIED MY COURSE and then after getting his APHP approved Certificate from ME, he later STOLE the APHP name.
There is a good reason why he has never been able to stop me using the APHP and that is because I can prove he STOLE IT FROM ME (and in turn Brian Howard)
Indeed my proof is such I could easily get his so called Trademark Legally Revoked if I could be bothered and if I were as childish and petty as sadly so many in this industry appear to be.
